I'd be willing to bet a rubber nickle that the tree-killer monster crashing through the wilderness of the island is either an African or Indian elephant. Combine this with the polar bear and the razorback pigs, and I think it safe to say that somebody needed to stock a zoo, and the live animal cargo was released on the island when the transport ship crashed. Lions, tigers, bears, monkeys, alligators, seals, snakes, wolves,.....OH MY!! As for the rest of the show, it's off the map. The scripting is so tight and the production is so good, it's all a man can do to just sit back with a grin on my face and a bowl of popcorn in my lap and HANG ON!

I, for one, would be disappointed if it turned out to be something so logical. Realistic is okay, but something as flatlined as that would be a real let-down.

When Jack and the gang were in the cockpit and The Thing came by, it was big enough to block out the sun from the windshield. Is there an elephant that large? African elephants are around 13 feet -- don't know about Indian elephants.

Maybe one elephant was giving the other a piggy-back ride.

Maybe it isnt a monster? thought of that? I read somewhere that thye are booby traps that are set off. they could have been planted by the French Woman, Ethan. someone we havent seen yet or the others(?). We see the trees explode out of the ground, why would a creature do that?
I am from aus and we are only up to ep.14. I have read wat happens at the end so...

They are all dead, that is my opinion.
The Island is either Paradise or Hell, according to how they lived their lives. The huge monster could be the devil who comes to get the bad ones.
On the island they have to deal with unfinished issues in their lives on earth. Some will be able to and some wan't. Some do not get a chance to come to terms with themselves and go to hell right away (the monster).
The island (which is really a stage between life and death) is the stage in which the deceased come to terms with their lived lifes before really becoming a "spirit".
