I find it interesting that this week's episode is called "Tabula Rasa," which, of course refers to Locke's theory of a "blank slate," which, of course actually refers to children, not adults stranded on an island.
Eh, whatever. Creative licensing, right?

Are there any other meanings to Tabula Rasa.

It means, literally, "Blank Slate." I suppose it could have different interpretations, but being an elementary educator, myself, I always think of it as relating to a little 5 year old waiting to be "filled with knowledge."

Could someone give me a brief recap of the first 15-20 minutes of tonight's episode? I didn't get a chance to tune in until about the point when Kate was filling Jack in about the French transmission.

Ok I will try it again.... ***please be advised that some of this could be considered spoilers**********
Show starts with a 3 or 4 minute recap of the pilot. Then it opens on the beach in the daylight with everyone gathering supplies and tidying up. I guess they are enviromentally aware. The group that took the radio to the summit are shown walking back down towards the beach. They decide to stay the night on the hill to avoid walking thru darkness and unknown danger. The group have a discussion about the unfortunate recording that they heard on the radio and come to the conclusion that they should keep it to themselves to avoid breaking morale back at basecamp.
Then we get a bit of news on the marshall and his terminal condition. Korean guy snaps at his wife to go clean up her d**n self but he throws in a "I love you" to ensure some nookie is comin his way. Jack and Hurley (big guy) discover Kates mugshot and have a discussion on that.....Jack is adamant that it is none of his business and leaves it at that. Hurley is scared out of his mind.
I think that about sums up the first 10-15 minutes....
Cheers,

I think its just fitting into the whole theme of this episode...starting over. Like Jack was telling Kate at the end, they all died 3 days before and now they are like children starting over.
And even ideas and beliefs are being re-evaluated and possibly scrapped. Like Sayid's attempt at a truce with Sawyer, and Jacks taking a life which is completely at odds with his role as a doctor. And also the Korean couple, and the almost silent altering taking place within them.
Then there are the ones trully starting over even before the crash, Walt and his father.

Good points....just to add... (sorry to repeat alot of the preceding posts points but I was thinking alot of the same things and I tend to ramble on) Korean couple. The wife, Sun, looks like she would like to start over and not be under her husbands heel. The blonde girl. She gets to start over and this time she has no one but herself to rely on. Sayid. Being from a dictatorship. Failed military campaign. He gets a fresh start and must be hoping that he will have success in a leadership role. Father - absentee father gets to start over as sole parent of child he barely knows. Hurley - We don't really know a lot of his past so he is harder to pinpoint. Guy who got sucked into jet engine gets to start over as seagull food. Not a great place to start, admittedly but you gotta play the cards your dealt.

Yeah, I can imagine that if I were in their situation, I'd also want to "start over." The things that used to be important to them aren't really around anymore, so they will all have to change. It will be interesting to see how the characters develop over time, and learn to live with each other on an island. I am especially interested in the development of the Korean couple.

I'm waiting for rockstar Charlie to go through withdrawels once his little baggy runs out.
Detox on a deserted isle has to be the worst...

Heh, yeah, not to mention Jack seems to be heavy on the alcohol. Maybe they should start a rehab group on the island.

Plus, Sawyer and his cigarettes. Well, this will definitely be a new beginning for those poor guys. Oh, poor Claire has to go through labor without any pain meds... ouchy.
