"Lost" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
The series debut of ABC's "Lost" ranked a dominant No. 1 in its hour across every relevant demographic time period. Drawing an average audience of 18.7 million viewers and earning a 6.8 rating, 20 share among Adults 18-49, "Lost" topped its nearest competition in the hour by 7.3 million viewers and by 74% in Adults 18-49 (CBS - 11.4 million & 3.9/11). "Lost" built audience throuhout its telecast, gaining 1.5 million viewers (17.9 million to 19.4 million) and 16% among Adults 18-49 (6.3/19 to 7.3/20) from its first half-hour to its second.
* "Lost" attracted the largest audience for any ABC drama premiere in 9 years - since 9/19/95 w/"Murder One." Among Adults 18-49 (6.8/20) and Adults 25-54 (8.2/22), it was ABC's top-rated drama debut in 5 years - since "Once and Again" on 9/21/99.
* "Lost" qualifies as the most-watched non-franchise drama debut on any network in more than 5 years (since 1/8/99 w/"Providence") and the highest-rated non-franchise drama opening among Adults 18-49 in 4 years (since 10/8/00 w/"Ed").
* "Lost" delivered ABC's largest audience in the Wednesday 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour in 3-1/2 years - since 3/7/01 w/"Millionaire." The debut earned ABC's top Adult 18-49 rating in the hour since the season finale of "The Bachelorette" with Trista on 2/19/03. In fact, ABC was up by 5.1 million viewers and by 17% in Adults 18-49 over its delivery in the hour on the same night a year ago (13.6 million & 5.8/17 on 9/24/03)
* Since it aired in an early time period with lower viewing levels (lower potential ratings), it's important to note that "Lost" delivered the largest audience share of any program on Wednesday night, topping CBS' debut of "CSI: NY" and NBC's back-to-back season premiere episodes of "Law & Order" across each of the key Adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (16 share), Adults 18-49 (20 share) and Adults 25-54 (22 share). In the Adult 18-49 rating, it was the second-highest-rated show of the night, topping both episodes of NBC's "Law & Order" and finishing just behind CBS' series premiere of "CSI: NY" (7.1/19).
