What did everyone think about this week's episode? I thought it was pretty good. What I noticed most about the episode was the "clues" or symbolism that was brought to my attention.

1) I thought it was interesting that Jack had to save both Boonre and the lady out in the ocean. Boone in the first episode said he was a lifeguard but yet he couldn't perform CPR on Rose nor could he swim out and save that woman. He had to be saved himself.

2) The tattoo on Charlie's arm. Not sure if it's his originally or there for the show but it said "Living is easy with eyes closed". Perhaps Charlie is living his life without noticing his drug problem or the others not noticing their own problem? The line is from "Strawberry Fields Forever" by the Beatles in case someone doesn't know.

3) The book that Sawyer is reading is "Watership Down". The moment I saw the cover I knew what it was since I work in a bookstore. That is one book that is required reading for high school students. That in itself is symbolism. If anyone knows what the book is about then you'll know what I mean. Very interesting.

4) The comment that Locke made to Jack about being a leader. You can't be a leader until you do know where you are going. Also, the comment about looking in the eye of the island and thinking it was beautiful really got me thinking. Could the eye of the island be whatever it is he saw? Locke looked more like a leader in the scene with Jack, but I do wonder how he knew Jack was hanging on for dear life because Jack never screamed for help.

5) Did anyone else noticed the lights that were flashing in the background at the end of the show? It's the scene wher Kate and Jack are talking and the camera swings around and you see three (I think) dim lights that go on and off. Is it a clue or symbolism? Or is it something else? Or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me? LOL

Yeah, when I saw the preview two weeks ago and saw that Boone was drowning I thought, "Man, what a lousy lifeguard he is!" Not sure what that means, but my guess is he studied just enough to pass the test and then spent his lifeguard career sunning. He may be a little deeper than his sister, but not much.

I don't have many thoughts on Charlie's tat, but how much do you love the thought of him and Claire getting together? She's the only girl I'm fond of so I'm hoping if he bonds with someone, it's her. Oh -- my viewing mates and I did notice the tattoo on Dom's other arm. That one's definitely Dom's -- it's his Fellowship tat (Elven 9).

Watership Down: I saw the animated film when I was little and think it was about warring rabbits. Quite frightening -- I remember rabbits with red eyes and dead rabbits lying in ditches. However, it's my cousin's favorite book, so perhaps I'll give it a shot, especially if it may lead to theories. Could you give us a brief synopsis of what we're missing?

About Locke and Jack -- Jack shouted for his father. Maybe Locke heard and saw him run off the cliff. Although of course I don't doubt that Locke could now have some other abilities besides newly, fully-funtioning legs. Not sure about the eye of the island comment. It seems a little Hollywood-cheesy -- probably just bad writing. Of course they then write Jack's reaction the typical Hollywood way by not being realistic with him exclaiming, "What the **** does that mean!?"

I'm defintely going to check for those lights. Perhaps editing just missed them and they're emitting from some Hawaiian building. Or maybe they were some fans on a boat out for a joy ride. That's why the show's now filming on set instead of out on the beach. Wretched fans -- have to ruin a good thing for the cast and crew...

Well, it's been awhile since I've read "Watership Down" so I will give it my best shot. Maybe someone can help me in this or even put in their own thoughts about it.

As we should know in "Watership Down" the bunnies are forced to flee the destruction of their community and in their pursuit of a "home" the bunnies, in the face of extraordinary adversity, encounter trials and triumphs. Simply put, the bunnies are on a quest for a home for a sturdier future.

Now compare "Lost" to that. The ones that survived are facing some extraordinary adversity. They are a thousand miles off course, no one knows where they are at, the situation with the water and food, and the unknown that is out there. That is rough. As for the trials and the triumphs, we shall see as the season progresses.

Simply put, the book is a tale of exile, survival, heroism, and leadership and the show seems to be about that also. I think Jack seems to fit that description well. What do you think?

I noticed the lights in tonight's repeat. It's the plane's windows being illuminated by the fire within it.

Thanks, Tanta. I wasn't sure if I was losing my mind or that it was a clue.
